The Sun

The Sun is essential to all life on Earth, providing energy in the form of light and heat, produced by nuclear fusion. It’s no surprise then that many civilisations in history worshipped the Sun as a deity. The star, which lies at the centre of our solar system, is largely made up of hydrogen and helium. At 4 billion years old, the Sun is considered a middle-aged star, and in approximately 5 billion years nuclear fusion will stop and it will become a red giant.
